The Bearfoot Hookers News Archive - 2005
Thursday, December 29, 2005
Happy New Year in advance. 2005 has been a good year for The Bearfoot Hookers and we plan to celebrate in style. Friday, December 30th, it's a New Year's Eve Eve party at the Hummingbird in Macon, GA. We plan to have a couple of very special guests sitting in with us. And Honorary Hooker, Scotty Nicholson will be unveiling his bionic thumb, recently reattached after a wood shop accident. His legendary piano playing skills should be even more amazing with the new multi-point thumb tip that can play four notes at once. That's right folks, the equivalent of a fourteen fingered piano player... now where else you gonna see that but at a Bearfoot Hookers show?
And for the 2005 finale, the New Year's Eve big bash at the Powerline Bar & Grill in Damascus, GA on Saturday, December 31. We're told it's the only bar within 50 miles. Hmmmmm. This will be interesting. Special guests and the bionic thumb in tow, it'll be a New Year's Eve party to remember. Join the caravan heading South from Macon. Come watch the sun rise on 2006 with The Bearfoot Hookers.
Lots of new shows have been added. We're gonna be busy over the next few months... and we've begun to make plans for a new record. Thanks for your support in the past year and we hope to see you this weekend. Happy New Year!

The Bearfoot Hookers would like to wish a Merry Christmas to our friends, family, neighbors, friendly law enforcement officials, press folks, bartenders, bar owners (even that jack-ass on Saint-Simons... may he get coal in his stocking), and to our fans who have made it possible for us to continue this great adveneture throughout 2005. We raise our glasses high!
A couple of reminders... never one to pass up free fixin's and drinks, Tybo will be playing a solo show at Cypress Creek in Waycross on Wednesday, December 28. If you're in the neighborhood, drop in and make a request. Ty is bound to have lots of friends sitting in.
And our last hoorah for 2005... it's The Bearfoot Hookers at the Hummingbird in Macon, GA on Friday, December 30. A New Year's Eve Eve party with Vic and the boys.
And finally, it's The Bearfoot Hookers' New Year's Eve All Night Revival Party at the Powerline Bar & Grill in Damascus, GA. Guaranteed to be an event of epic South Georgia proportions. Join us as we watch the sun rise on 2006.
More to come...

A couple of short, but important, news items for you Hookers out there...
First, our friends at Flagpole Magazine are hosting a "2005 Year-End Music Survey" where you can pick your favorite CD releases from local bands in 2005 plus add comments about your favorite and least favorite shows of the year. The Bearfoot Hookers' "Life at the Bar" is one of the CD choices and we'd be much obliged if you'd take a moment and give us a vote. There are CDs listed from lots of other great bands as well. Just hit the link below...
Flagpole 2005 Year-End Music Survey
If you're a 100% Hooker team player, you might mention the Solid Gold Saturday Night show at Tasty World featuring Redneck GReece Deluxe, The Chasers, and The Bearfoot Hookers as your favorite show of the year. Or the 3 Nights, 3 Sounds, 1 Band series put on by the Hookers. Or the 1 Band, 1 Night, 400 PBRs all nighter we did at Caledonia. Can't help you on your least favorite show... the Hookers weren't there!
Finally, our own Ty Manning has whipped up a nice poster advertising our New Year's Eve Show down south. Click the link below to see (and download) your very own copy to cherish and love.

See y'all at the bar!

If you missed last Tuesday's show at the Georgia Theater... shame on you! It was a benefit you selfish turds. Don't give me that BS about "final exams" or "can't stay out late on weeknights" or "I was sick"... 'cause here's the lowdown... you will never be asked during a job interview what grade you got on a final exam, you can sleep when you're dead, and Mark was sick and performed anyway, as did about half of The Chasers... so there are no valid excuses. Especially considering that the show was a benefit to raise food for the homeless - AND - it was one of the best band lineups we've ever seen in Athens.
For those who were there, thanks for coming out and being a part of a great night. Here are some highlights:
The Bearfoot Hookers were dismayed to find out that their donation of three cases of Miller High Life did not qualify as "canned goods". So we reluctantly kept them... for a little while anyway.
Without missing a note, Ty successfully executed a leap from the balcony of the Georgia Theater to the stage during the guitar solo for "Gettin' Ready for the Show". His bionic knee came in handy yet again.
The Georgia Theater bar actually had to go to a liquor store to restock. One bartender was heard to say "for a bunch of cheap Hookers, they sure do drink alot".
There was a brief, but impressive, show of nudity in the audience during the Hookers' set.
Both Kasie (aka the hot redhead) and Michelle celebrated their birthdays (each in their own special way).
The Cigar Store Indians actually did a medley of "Ring of Fire" and "I Wanna Be Sedated" at Ty's request. One of the many high points during the night.
Sleepy Horses, Ken Will Morton & the Wholly Ghosts, the Cigar Store Indians, the Chasers, and The Bearfoot Hookers all rocked the house.
And Clay Leverett (the Chasers), Ken Will Morton, Kyle Harris, and Brandon Hicks (all of KWM & the Wholly Ghosts) joined the Hookers for a rousing version of "Sympathy for the Devil" to close out the Hookers' set.
It was a great night and a thing to behold... and the Hookers' last Athens show in 2005. So if you missed it, we'll expect to see you in Macon on the 30th or farther south for our big New Year's Eve party at the Powerline Bar & Grill in Damascus, GA. That's right, Damascus, GA... a night of hardcore honky-tonkin' with Stevie and his waitresses "who get around"... South Georgia style.
Thanks to Michelle Roche and the NE Georgia Food Bank for a great night at the Georgia Theater. Rock and Roll ain't pretty, but it sure is fun.
Saturday, November 26, 2005
Thanks to all who joined us at the Caledonia Lounge last night for our 101 Proof Wild Turkey after-Thanksgiving party. And those ladies who missed it... you missed an entire room full of eligible Tonge boys. Thanks to Ty's mama who brought a crock pot full of her famous "drunk dogs" (little smoked weenies marinated in an entire fifth of Wild Turkey).
See y'all next Tuesday night at the Georgia Theater where we'll be participating in a benefit show for the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. The bill is pack full of great bands... Sleepy Horses, The Chasers, Ken Will Morton & the Wholly Ghosts, Cigar Store Indians, and The Bearfoot Hookers. Bring 5 cans of food for a discounted ticket. Show starts early... 8pm, and the Hookers will round out the evening hosting an all-star jam. I know it's a Tuesday night, just tell your boss that you were helping out a good cause. That liquor smell? Some wayward soul, down on his luck, needed a helping hand. They can't fire you for being a humanitarian now can they? And you college students... it's just a final exam. It won't ruin your life I promise... just ask Ty. Took him ten years to get done and he's doing just fine thank-you. See y'all there!

Rock and Roll tried its best to kill us this weekend... but we survived to rock again... and rock again we will. Thanks to Vic, Maggie, Dan, and Siobhan for joining us on stage at the Hummingbird on Friday. As usual, the Hummingbird opened its arms and its liquor cabinet to the Bearfoot Hookers. Great show, lots of fun. Thanks also to Jeff for mixin' the drinks and Justin for getting it sounding right. Maggie Large (of Macon Telegraph and Let It Bleed fame) has pics and details on her blog. Click the link below to check 'em out.
Maggie Large's AMPED Blog - and - Pics
Saturday night's show at Transmetropolitan was a blast too. Our friends Attractive Eighties Women opened the show and brought a following from Atlanta. So together we showed 'em a big time Athens rock show. Great sounding room. The show was sponsored by Athens' commercial free radio station, HOT 100.7. Thanks to Ken Williams for joining us. And a big yee-ha to honorary Hooker Scotty Nicholson for hanging with us, adding the keys and the high sweet harmonies through both shows.
Cool show coming up this Friday, November 25. We will be hosting a post-Thanksgiving 101 Proof Wild Turkey Shoot at the Caledonia Lounge. This will be another all night Hooker hoedown kicking off at about 10:00pm. Bring your leftovers and enjoy a tall glass of Wild Turkey or a cool PBR, and be thankful dammit... we are. Hope to see you there!
Until then, y'all have a good Thanksgiving. See you at the bar!

Two big shows this weekend...
Friday, Nov. 18th - The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom, Macon, GA - this is, without a doubt, our favorite place to play in all of Georgia. It'll be an all night rowdy rock and roll affair with audience participation and even a baptism at the end of the night. We will be arranging a caravan of folks from Athens. Don't miss this show. Macon is becoming a great party town again.
Saturday, Nov. 19th - Transmetropolitan, Athens, GA - following the UGA/Kentucky game. It's a post game victory (hopefully) party for the dawgs with very special guests Attractive Eighties Women. Transmet has always been a fancy bar... but now the Hookers are taking over. Things will never be the same.
Come out and join us, if you've got the stamina. It's a beer drinkin' gospel, football, hootenany! Rock and Roll ain't pretty and it's gonna get ugly this weekend.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. We've been busy playing and promoting. Last Friday's show at the Ritz was fun. Thanks to Chris McKay for inviting us out. And Saturday we played a private party for the Copper Creek folks... and the Athens Clarke County Police Dept.
Just hours before the show on Saturday, Ty noted that it would be the 100th show that the Bearfoot Hookers have played since our shady beginnings just two and a half years ago. And even more remarkable, our first show was also in Keith's (of Copper Creek) garage. So an observant fan last Friday noted that in 100 shows, we had moved about 75 feet. Not bad for a bunch of degenerate Hookers.
Next show is down in Macon at the Hummingbird Stage & Taproom on Friday, Nov 18. We'll be performing a baptism of sorts for little Jack Stanley, the latest arrival in the Hummingbird family. Congratulations to Vic and Lisa. We've already seen pictures of little Jack with a Telecaster in one hand and a sippy cup full of whiskey in the other. Join us on the 18th for a big Hooker time Macon style.
Then on Saturday, Nov 19 we'll be in Athens at Transmetropolitan (upstairs) immediately following the UGA/Kentucky game. We'll be joined by our friends and honorary Hookers in Attractive Eighties Women (word is the keyboard player is hot!).
See y'all at the bar...
Sunday, October 23, 2005
Congratulations to Laci & Alan on their wedding this past weekend. They're off to a great start considering they had a bunch of Hookers at the event. Dancing, cold beers, bridesmaids, and Hookers... it's better in Metter and Sugar sho is sweet... Thanks to the Lanier family for puttin' us up and throwing a great party. Thanks also to the barkeep who kept us well stocked during the show. And thanks to all who danced and sang along, particularly the lovely ladies who got close and personal with the band during the last couple of songs. The afterparty details are a little foggy. All I know is... there was a pair of black high-heel shoes mixed in with our gear when we unloaded back home in Rutledge. And I hear that Ty's mama has a recipe for those little sausage weenies that includes Southern Comfort as a main ingredient.
Next show is back in Athens on November 4 at The Ritz with Chris McKay & the Critical Darlings and Trubblegum. See y'all at the bar!
Thursday, October 13, 2005
Alright Kay, go ahead and put the PBRs on ice. The Hookers are coming to Waycross.
Tuesday, October 11, 2005
The first installment of Solid Gold Saturday Night was a rousing success. Thanks to all who came out and especially Redneck GReece Delux and The Chasers for participating. The bar apparently did exceptionally well... big surprise... y'all are some drinkin' fools.
Check out the picture of our friend Neil Palmer, demonstrating proper Hooker attire and allegiance to The Bearfoot Hookers. Click HERE for the pic...
The Hookers are heading south to Waycross this coming Saturday, October 15. It being a Saturday night and all, we'll be starting earlier than normal... about 9pm. If yer in the southeastern portion of our great state this weekend, drop in for a good time at Cypress Creek... where the beers are cold, the ladies are hot, and Kay whacks the gators in the head with a fresh bottle of PBR! Rumour is that our previously held record for bar sales at Cypress Creek has been beaten. That's a challenge boys. Hooker fans... come out and do us proud. Click HERE for a copy of the OFFICIAL PROMOTIONAL POSTER, and HERE for a HANDBILL featuring Ty's latest masterpiece.
We're brewing plans for a couple of big events in the next few of months, including the second round of Solid Gold Saturday Night. Stay tuned boys and girls.

Solid Gold Saturday Night... Solid Gold Saturday Night... Solid Gold Saturday Night...
Saturday, October 1, 2005 - Tasty World, Athens - 10pm
Lineup includes the legendary Redneck GReece Deluxe, The Chasers, the Bearfoot Hookers, and an inbred jam to close the evening. We will have t-shirts, stickers, CDs, and a bar full of frosty beverages. Put on your dancin' shoes and come out for a night of classic country music by three of Athens' best. Brought to you by Hard Labor Productions and the Bearfoot Hookers! Click on the Solid Gold Saturday Night text to download a cool poster designed by Matt McDonald.

A huge shout out to Mark Robinette. Mark has filmed the last three Hookers shows. The video recordings will be used to put together some sort of DVD sampling of a Bearfoot Hookers show. We've already seen some of the footage from the last show at Eastwood Pub and it is great. As Mark said, "there's women dancin' with men, women dancin' with women, men drinkin', and all sorts of illicit behavior. It just ain't right!" So next time you attend a Hooker show, be sure to be on your most bodacious behaviour so that Mark can catch it on film and immortalize the moment. Thanks again to Mark Robinette... a man with a camera, an eyepatch, and a night full of crazy stories.

TANGSTACHE 2005 was crazy. Thanks to Vincent, Mack, Chuck and the Tri-Chi crew for hosting one hell of a party. All proceeds went to benefit the Red Cross Hurricane Relief efforts and I heard that the total was over $500. And I actually have seen Mulligan's famous "hamdog" now - it is a thing to fear. Pics from the evening and from our recent show at Last Call are now available on the IMAGES page.
It's back to Athens this coming weekend for a show at one of our favorite clubs, the Caledonia Lounge. The Hookers return to the Caledonia on Saturday, Sept. 24 and its our "1 Night, 1 Band, 4 Hours, 400 PBRs" show. There will be no opening band - Hookers all night long - with lots of special guests (who we'll announce once we find out who is of of jail this week). Show kicks off around 10pm and we'll play till the bar closes or untill everyone is on the floor, whichever comes first. This will be a good chance to hear some of those long lost Hooker songs from the good-ol' days. Shout out your requests and we'll play 'em for sure. Hope to see you there. We'll announce more as we have it.
And finally, mark your calendars for Saturday, October 1 when The Bearfoot Hookers will be hosting the first in a series... "Solid Gold Saturday Night" at Tasty World in Athens. Click HERE for a promotional poster designed by our friend Matt McDonald. This will be an evening of straight up country music from three of Athens' finest acts... Redneck GReece Deluxe, The Chasers, and The Bearfoot Hookers. More announcements to come.

The folks at HoundogRadio.com reported that there was a tremendous response to our live appearance on Eric Jefferson's "Cybertoxic Lounge" show last Wednesday. Thanks to all who tuned in. And if you missed it... they've decided to run replay the show in its entirety tonight, Saturday, September 17, at 7pm eastern time just before Frank "Houndog" Coon's "Saturday Night Jam". Here are the links... LISTEN... HoundogRadio.com. Check it out.
And if you're looking for a wild night in the city but your conscious is holding you back, look no further. TANGSTACHE 2005 is tonight at Mulligan's in Decatur, GA. The event features great music from newly formed "Attractive Eighties Women" (featuring Mack Williams, Vincent & Patrick Tang, Chuck, and our own Jon Tonge), "MASA" (Japan's hottest folk singer), "Morning After" (featuring Steve Labate, Andrew Nelson, and Hookers Jon Tonge and Josh Skelton), and finally, TANGSTACHE veterans, The Bearfoot Hookers. And here's the part to help your conscious... all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Red Cross Hurricane Relief efforts. So come out, eat some food, drink some happy juice,
rock hard, and donate some cash. Mulligan's is located at 630 East Lake Drive in Decatur. Hope to see you there. The music starts at 9pm sharp!
Monday, September 12, 2005
Big time at Eastwood Pub on Saturday night. Thanks to all who came out and participated in our "Hurricane Relief Party", and in particular, those who generously donated money towards the cause. We collected $625, all of which has been donated directly to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Good work folks.
Thanks also to Dave, Pam, Bill, & Britt at the Eastwood Pub for hosting another great night of Bearfoot Hooker honky-tonkin', including guest appearances by Ken Williams, Amy Pritchett, and Vincent Tang. We're working on plans for our next Eastwood Pub show.
Be sure to tune in to Houndog Radio on Wednesday night (Sept 14) at 9pm. The Hookers will be doing an interview with Eric Jefferson and playing some songs live on his Cybertoxic Lounge Webcast. Just pull up www.houndogradio.com on your web-browser an launch one of their streaming audio links. Or click HERE to listen using Windows Media Player. There's also a link for AOL Instant Messenger so that you can CHAT with Eric and the Hookers during the show. Don't miss this historic event! Houndog Radio has recently been playing songs from both of our CDs and we're very excited about being invited onto the show.
On Thursday, September 15, we'll be playing at Last Call in Athens in an event that benefits a Bipolar Disorder group. We're playing early, around 9:30pm we're told.
And finally, TANGSTACHE 2005 is upon us. On Saturday, September 17 the Hookers will join Attractive Eighties Women, MASA, and The Morning After at Mulligan's in Decatur, GA for yet another event to benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. Click HERE for a copy of the poster. The festivities kick off at 9pm and you don't want to miss any of the acts, I promise. This will be a fun night. See y'all at the bars.
Monday, September 5, 2005
Once again, the folks in Macon opened their arms and gave The Bearfoot Hookers a big'ol middle Georgia bear hug. Thanks again to Vic, Lisa, James, Justin, Jeff, and all at the Hummingbird. Thanks also to Maggie and Gary from the Macon Telegraph for coming, taking pictures, taking notes, singing, and dancing. Maggie publishes a music blog and had some nice things to say about us (see the PRESS page). The whole gang joined us for a late night rendition of "The Weight". It was a thing of beauty. Can't wait to get back to Macon. Maconites... look for the Hookers again in November.
We've made some updates to the web-site. Check out new photos on the IMAGES page (including some from Macon courtesy of Gary Harmon). Lots of shows booked for September and October, including this Saturday's "Hurricane Relief Party" (9/10) at the Eastwood Pub, Athens, following the UGA/USC game. We'll be donating our paycheck and taking donations to benefit the relief efforts in the Gulf Coast region. Then on September 17 it's TANGSTACHE 2005 at Mulligan's in Decatur, GA. This second annual event, hosted by our good TRI-CHI friends will also benefit the hurricane relief work.
Finally, we're working out details for a live web-cast show with our friends at Houndog Radio (www.houndogradio.com). They've been playing our songs on their various shows. Check 'em out. They play some great music with little or no commericials - and they support independent artists like the Hookers. We will make an announcement about the live broadcast once the details are nailed down.
OK boys and girls, keep your noses clean and your heads above water. Hope to see you at the Eastwood Pub on Saturday. Bring your dancin' shoes and your cash donations. It's the least we can do since we don't qualify as blood donors (contamination issues). See y'all at the bar!
Saturday, September 3, 2005
OK Hooker fans, our break is over. All legal issues and instrument repairs are taken care of so tonight, it's back to work! Heading down to Macon in a few hours for our return to the fabulous Hummingbird Stage and Taproom on Cherry Street. Great bar and music venue. One of the nicest places we've ever played.
Next Satruday (9/10) we're back in Athens at the Eastwood Pub following the UGA/USC game. The night will be a "Hurricane Relief Party". Please don't think we're taking the terrible events in the Gulf Coast lightly. All we know how to do is play rock & roll so we're doing what we can do. Our paycheck for the night will be donated in full to the relief efforts and we'll be passing the hat several times. Come out, have a rowdy time, and do some good too. Beer drinkin' gospel - Hooker style.
Full schedule in September and October so check back often for announcements and updates. We've heard stories of bands cancelling shows because of the high gas prices. Rest assured, the Bearfoot Hookers' Beer Drinkin' Gospel is called by the higher power of Rock & Roll and will keep rolling along no matter what. Hell, it's the only thing that keeps us out of jail. See y'all at the bar!
Sunday, August 14, 2005
Let's hear it for the Eastwood Pub! The Hookers had a great time there on Friday night. Thanks to all who came out and a big "hell yeah" goes out to Dave, Bill, Sara, and Britt for making us feel right at home. And a tip of the hat to Dave for helping us out when the Hooker PA gasped its last breath and died on the spot. I told Ty that the PA head couldn't handle Jaeger shots. Then again, Ty's the one with the baboon liver. Thanks also to Ken Will Morton (Ken Will Morton & the Wholly Ghosts) and Brian Connell (16 Tons) for joining us with some kick-ass harmonica. And, as always, thanks to Steve LaBate for sittin' in. Hookers gonna do it again...
Along those lines... we're happy to announce that the operation today went well and Ty is the proud new owner of a clean liver from the Youth Minister that we've been holding hostage for the past week. Both patients survived... Ty feels like a new man... and I suspect that the "Youth Night" keg party at the church down the street was a big success. Beer drinkin' gospel boys and girls.
After nine straight weeks of shows (including Athfest which was like a month crammed into a single weekend), the Hookers are taking a short (three week) break to get some sleep, repair our "instruments" (thanks ladies), and take care of a few of those outstanding warrants. We'll be back in action at the Hummingbird in Macon, GA on September 3 (as long as the lawyers do their jobs). Then we start all over again. Several big events are in the works for the upcoming fall season.
Side note... on Saturday night a couple of Hookers attended a show at The Ritz featuring some of Athens' most talented blues and bluegrass musicians. Porch to the People (blues) and 16 Tons (bluegrass) put on an amazing show. These are all top shelf talents that are not to be missed. I predict that you'll see some of these folks playing with the Hookers in the not too distant future. And check out the bio page on the 16 Tons web-site.
Keep in touch... the web-site will be updated while we're on hiatus. See y'all at the bar!
Thursday, August 4, 2005
Bragg Jam was kick ass! We had a great time in Macon. Met lots of cool new people, played a great show at Nashville Station, got to hear Billy Joe Shaver, and hang out with Donnie McCormick. Lookin' forward to next year. Thanks to Brad Evans for gettin' us in.
Also, check out Houndog Radio, a web-cast show based in Stone Mountain, GA. They've got "Songs Like You" and "Gettin' Ready for the Show" in rotation.
Several new shows announced. Check the Tour Dates page for updates. Saturday night we'll be closing the show at the Ritz in Athens and next Saturday (Aug 12) the Hookers return to Eastwood Pub for round two. The party is on! See y'all at the bars!
Thursday, July 28, 2005
The Hookers are heading down to Macon for what is shaping up to be one hell of a music festival this weekend. Bragg Jam takes place Friday and Saturday night and pretty much all of the great bands in Georgia and the surrounding territories are converging for the event. The Hookers take the stage at Nashville Station (1015 Riverside Drive - downtown) at 8:30pm. "Gonna be some rockin', at the show tonight..." Kickin' ass in middle Georgia. Takin' no prisoners, feelin' no pain. See y'all there...
Several new shows in the works. Announcements coming soon.
Thursday, July 21, 2005
Tonight... the Bearfoot Hookers take over the fabulous 40 Watt in Athens. Don't miss this show. This is the behemoth Southern Rock segment of the "3 Nights, 3 Sounds, 1 Band" series. Opening will be special guests Still, Small Voice & the Joyful Noise and Timber. And very special guests joining us on stage include Scotty Nicholson (keys & guitar), John Neff (pedal steel), Marcus Thompson (guitar), and more. If you've been to all three shows in the series, the Hookers are gonna buy you a shot, and if you're a lady, you can request whatever favor your evil little heart desires. Show starts at 10pm and goes till they kick us out. Tell 'em at the door that you're a Hookers fan and... well they'll look at you funny but what the hell! See y'all at the bar! Come ready to ROCK!
Sunday, July 17, 2005
It's been a long weekend folks. Gettin' to be a habit this rock & roll lifestyle. Thursday's show at Tasty World (the Hard Rock Show) was a blast. The guys from Plan A hung around until the bloody staggering end. Thanks to all who came out. We've got about 5 or 6 folks who are eligible for the free shot on the Hookers if they make it to next Thursday's show at The 40 Watt!
Friday night we traveled south for our first show in Macon, GA. We played a place called The Hummingbird on Cherry Street downtown. Let me tell ya', the folks there need to write a book on how to run a bar/rock club. The owner, Mr. Vic Stanley, and his crew (Justin and James included) run a damn fine establishment with a great selection of cold frosty beverages, great sound, and they made us feel right at home. Vic and Justin joined us on stage for a couple of songs and our new friend Dan (of Belly Fat) improvised some sax on a few others. Much to our surprise, "Piss Drunk" sounds freakin-kick-ass with a sax. We will be back!
On Saturday, several of the Hookers hit the Caledonia Lounge to hear Southern Bitch. Aside from the fact that they're four of the nicest people you'll ever meet in Athens, this band puts on one hell of a rockin' show. Can't say enough about Southern Bitch. Hit our links page to visit their web site. They're well on their way! Rock on Wendy, Adam, Chris, & Chuck!
And finally, on Sunday several more Hookers headed to Atlanta to hear one of our favorite songwriters, Todd Snider, who cancelled due to a family emergency. So we went to a bar instead. How very original!
Remember, this coming Thursday, July 21... it's The Bearfoot Hookers with friends Timber and Still, Small Voice and the Joyful Noise at the fabulous 40 Watt Club in Athens. Come early... do not miss any of the music. This will be the Southern Rock Jam night and we plan to take advantage of the vast stage by filling it up with the best talent in Athens. This will be a show to remember folks! See y'all at the bar!
Sunday, July 10, 2005
Last night at the Caledonia Lounge was without a doubt one of the coolest nights of music we have been a part of. Betsy Franck & the Bare Knuckle Band were amazing (Ray Charles would be proud) and Ken Will Morton & the Wholly Ghosts played some of the best songs we've heard in Athens in a long time. Check both of these bands out!
We saw many new faces in the audience, and of course many "regulars" who always make us feel like we're playing in our living room. Yes, our living rooms have neon lights, dirty floors, a well stocked bar and friends are always welcome. The "country show", first installment in the "3 nights, 3 sounds, 1 band" series, went great and we had fun playing all our foot-stompin', beer drinkin', hell raisin' honky tonk tunes. Thanks again to both Ken Will Morton and Betsy Franck for joining us on stage at various points during the set.
And finally, a huge "hell yeah" goes out to the crew at the Caledonia Lounge who always show us a good time. Next time we promise to rock hard boys!
Second show in the series is Thursday, July 14 at Tasty World. This will be the "hard rock" show so bring out your leather - and feel free to bang your head and raise those beers and devil horn hand gestures high. Then on Friday, we head down to Macon for our first show at the Hummingbird, a recently revamped club in the downtown district. See y'all at the bar!
Thursday, July 7, 2005
Thanks to all who joined us for our holiday weekend swing through South GA. A new bar sales record was set at Cypress Creek in Waycross - thanks to Kay and Lita for a good time as usual. The SandTrap at Saint-Simon's was fun. Thanks to Pat, James, & Jersey (Roughhouse) for live sound help and hospitality afterwards. And finally, thanks to Scotty Nicholson and Steve LaBate for joining us - "half a dozen Hookers".
Our "3 nights, 3 sounds, 1 band" July series in Athens kicks off on Saturday (July 9). We're playing three different nights, at three different venues in Athens in July so we decided to mix things up a bit. Three completely different shows. Click HERE to download a commemorative poster designed by our friend Matt McDonald. Here's the lineup...
Saturday, July 9 - Caledonia - The Country Show
with Betsy Franck & the Barenuckle Band

We survived AthFest 2005... barely. Thursday night the Hookers joined all the other bands featured on the 2005 AthFest Compilation CD for a big release party at The 40 Watt.
Friday night we roamed the streets until 10pm when we decended upon Wild Wing. Chris McKay & the Critical Darlings were pushing the energy level up. Jon & Ty joined the band, providing backing vocals on a new CM&tCD track and Ty sang the lead in a wild rendition of Deuce (KISS). Then the hardest working lady in Athens music, Carla LeFever and her band the Rays took things to a new sonic level. By the time the Hookers took the stage at 12:30am, the crowd was juiced and ready. Waycross, Tifton, Valdosta, Madison, Hartwell and Athens were all in the house! Great show. Thanks to all who came out... we know there were lots of other great bands playing elsewhere too so we really appreciate the support. By my count, two people had to be carried out (not yet ready for enrollment as Hookers) and many odd pairings were made by the end of the night. Ah, Athens in the summer time; lust is in the air. Thanks also to Scotty Nicholson for joining us and to Angelina and Neil for their help toting gear up and down those friggin' stairs.
After sleeping late Saturday, some of the Hookers got cozy with a bottle of Wild Turkey which didn't last through the day. A day which included a slip-n-slide, a small pink ladies tank-top on a large hairy Hooker, and great music. We enjoyed hearing Ken Will Morton, the Chasers, Col. Knowledge & the Lickety Splits, Flood City Shootout, Donkey Punch, Don Chambers + Goat, and Lona (the band, as opposed to...). That's a lot of music, and a lot of liqour. The stories are too numerous and sordid to recount.
There's even a picture floating around of Ty and Jon back at it in the rain on Sunday. Jon is performing some kind of mating ritual disguised as buck dancing while innocent young ladies in wet t-shirts stare, hopelessly hypnotized by his erratic movements.
Look out Waycross, the Hookers are in rare form!

Word on the street is that the track "Beggar's Prayer" from Life at the Bar was played on WCHZ (Augusta, GA) 95-Rock's Homegrown show last Sunday night. Thanks to Joe and Freakboy for puttin' it on the air.

Thanks to all who came out to support the Hookers this weekend. We had a great show on Friday at the Eastwood Pub. The place was packed and we've already been asked back...soon. We're all a little foggy about the latter portion of the show... none of us can remember the last song we played. So if anyone else knows, please post on our Guestbook. Saturday's show at the Brandyhouse was great fun. Thanks to the ATL Hooker fans for being there to cheer, holler, buy beers, and sing along. We're working on getting back there soon. Mack Williams has some pics from the show on his site... Mack's Pics.
The Hookers will be participating in the big AthFest event this coming weekend. We will be at Wild Wing with Chris McKay & the Critical Darlings and Carla LeFever & the Rays on Friday, June 24. As Jon said in his last e-mail, we need a good addendum to our name to round out the bill. The Bearfoot Hookers and the ______. Post your suggestions on the Guestbook. Whoever comes up with the best title gets a round on the Hookers Friday night. Come out and celebrate the best in Athens music with us. The best will be at Wild Wing for sure.

Alright Hookers... it's official... We've put together a big 4th of July party South Georgia style. Here's the deal...
Friday, July 1 - The Hookers return to Waycross (Cypress Creek) where the beers are cold, the women are hot, and Kay, our favorite bartender in the world keeps the drinks a'comin'.
Saturday, July 2 - The Hookers head out to Saint Simons Island for our first ever show at The SandTrap. So spend the day at the beach and join us for some rockin' when the sun goes down.
Now it being a holiday weekend and all, we plan to hang around Sunday (and maybe even Monday) for a beach party Hooker style. So make your plans and gather your folks 'cause this one's gonna be big. Check back on our site for details as they develop. Hookers on the beach! Hell yeah!

New show booked at The Brandyhouse in Atlanta for June 18. Opening for Tony Furtado. Click the Tour Dates link for details. This is a great venue and the Hookers rocked the place just a couple of weeks ago. The bartenders are lovely and they've got Miller High Life on tap. Rumor is... Scotty Nicholson will be joining us. Make sure you tell 'em at the door who you've come to see. Join us on the 18th and we'll show Atlanta what your sisters already know.

New shows announced, including a long awaited return to Waycross. Click the Tour Dates link for updates and come out to support the Hookers. Lyric links are now active on the Audio page and all the nice things that have been said about us in the press are now available on the Press page.
Congratulations to Ken & Shanda. Good luck! And finally... Happy Birthday to our own Jon Tonge who claims that half of his life is now over at the ripe old age of 25. In fact, he's gonna live a lot longer... he'll just get more and more ON'RY with each passing year.

"A rock & roll train-wreck between David Allen Coe, the Allman Brothers, and maybe even Phish..."
"Ass-kickin' rock & roll with some country and bluegrass thrown in. This shit's awesome. Now that was a rock & roll show..."
"I just love Jon... he's so rugged and so smart too. We went to high school together you know. He always looked so innocent..."
Quotes from the audience at Saturday night's show at the Brandyhouse in Atlanta. Thanks to all who came out. Our Atlanta fans rock!

"The Bearfoot Hookers rocked harder and drank more than any band that's come through here in a long time..." Thanks to all who came out to support the Hookers at the Caledonia Lounge on Friday. Our friend Marcus Thompson laid down some tight guitar work on a few songs... thanks Marcus. Bellah's poetry between sets was very cool. Chris McKay & the Critical Darlings rocked hard. A big "hell yeah" goes out to all who rocked in the audience.
For those of you submitting ideas for the John Tonge traffic violation defence effort, click the link below for a copy of the obviously doctored photo from the Athens Clark County Police camera. Remember... free entry to BFH shows for life to anyone who gets him out of this one. Obviously doctored evidence.
And finally, thanks to Christy, Adam, Katie, Andy, and Tang for coming to our rescue after the show when, sadly, Hookermobile #1 (aka Mark's truck) went toe to toe with a Jeep Cherokee and lost. Thankfully, nobody was injured... but the truck had to be towed and its fate is questionable. All above helped us unload the gear and transported it safely away - so the rock will live on. And thanks to Ty, the driver of the Jeep walked away with copies of our CDs. Someday she'll tell her grandchildren "Yep, them Bearfoot Hookers, I tore up their truck one night. They was nice boys." Rock & Roll ain't pretty.

Hookers and The King... The Bearfoot Hookers had the great honor and privilege of backing up The King, Elvis Presley, at the Rutledge Country Fair. We're not kidding. Pics will be available soon. It's all down hill from here.... OK, seriously... the Hookers joined Rick Wade's Elvis Tribute show and gave the crowd a real treat in Rutledge on Saturday. We had a great time and appreciate Rick being willing to give us this opportunity.
